How microdermabrasion is performed at our Dezire clinic?
- The first step is to schedule a consultation with our qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. During this appointment, you will discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure. It will be evaluated whether the procedure is suitable for your goals or expectations.
- Before the procedure, your skin will be cleansed thoroughly, and a local anesthetic may be applied to numb the treatment area. In some cases, general anesthesia or sedation may be used if the treatment area is larger or if you prefer it.
- Once the area is numb, our dermatologist will use a handheld device with a rotating abrasive wheel or brush to gently remove the outer layers of your skin. The depth of abrasion will depend on the specific concerns being addressed.
- The procedure itself can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size and location of the treatment area.
- After dermabrasion, the treated area will be dressed with a protective ointment or dressing.
How much time is required by your skin to recover from the skin polishing procedure?
The recovery time can vary depending on the depth of the abrasion and the individual’s healing process. It usually takes around 1 to 2 weeks for the skin to fully heal, during which you may need to avoid activities that could irritate or damage the treated area. You may also experience some temporary changes in skin color or texture, which will gradually improve over time.
What are some points you should keep in mind if you are opting for a dermabrasion procedure?
Before the procedure:
- Do not wear makeup on the skin that will be treated for at least two days before your session.
- Apply sunscreen every day for a week or so before starting your therapy.
- Please notify your doctor if you have or have had herpes.
- Inform your doctor of any information you have about medications you have been using.
During the procedure:
- Do not apply makeup to your skin throughout the Microdermabrasion treatment.
- Lotion or serum will be administered to your skin after the portable machine has been operated on it for roughly 30 - 45 minutes.
- Redness on the treated skin is a very common after-effect of dermabrasion treatment.
- During and after the treatment, your skin may tingle
After the procedure:
- For at least a week after your session, avoid exposing your treated skin to direct sunlight.
- Use sunscreen on a regular basis. SPF 30+ is a must-have. Increase this if your doctor recommends it.
- Do not use a sauna or steam bath for a week following your treatment.
- For a week after your treatment, avoid using a tanning bed.
- Only wash your face with a moderate face wash and cold to lukewarm water after 6 to 8 hours of treatment.
- Allow 3-4 weeks between various microdermabrasion procedures.
- Makeup should not be applied for three days after the therapy.
