Lipoma is a small lump which is made of fat and it is formed below the skin. Lipomas are mainly seen in the individuals of 40 to 60 years of age and mainly seen in areas of neck, back and shoulders. Lipomas can grow in any part of body and are benign, they don’t cause any harm to the body.

What are the symptoms of lipoma?

Lipomas are very soft in consistency and it doesn’t cause any pain. It even grows and moves slowly when you palpate with your finger.

What causes Lipomas?

There is no exact cause of lipoma, hereditary or genetics is said to be the important factor in Lipoma.

How Lipomas are treated?

Lipomas are benign and painless and it doesn’t cause any discomfort. If you are not comfortable with your lipomas and it look ugly on you then it is better to remove it. Lipoma removal involves minor surgery in which the area is numbed around the lipoma and then an incision is made and it is removed.

Some other methods of lipoma removal are:

Liposuction- Some of the lipomas are removed by liposuction.

Steroid injections – It which help in shrinking of lipoma but not removing it completely.

Fat or the lump is collected in the glass jar by suction technique. When the surgery is completed, the incision is closed and the dressing is done. The scars of the surgery are not noticeable at all.
